What's this anime stuff all about?

Any people who have managed to stumble onto this site and are wondering what the hell this anime crap is have found their way to the answer.

Anime is the name given to movies or shows, usually of a Japanese origin, which are hand drawn and animated.
They all tend to follow a few rules in the style of drawing that they accommodate such as big shiny eyes and outlandish hair styles although there are a few exceptions (Such as Akira and Ghost in the Shell, which are two of the most successful Anime movies of all time, yet don't follow typical anime style strictly).

Almost everyone has seen an anime programme of some sort, such as the Pokémon or Beyblade cartoon series. The anime community tend not to class these particular shows as proper anime however for one reason or another.
These anime programmes aren't all children's cartoons; in fact some are very adult indeed.

Originally, people read Japanese comics which were called manga and the animated form of these are called anime. Lot's of people still read Manga as you might read Marvel or DC comics.

You can watch anime shows on Toonami and the Sci-Fi channel.
Anime on VHS (rarer these days) and DVD (much more common) are available from HMV, Sanity and loads of other Entertainment stores, but you might have to look for it.

<= Anime often features giant robots

<=Fighting women also play a part in the popularity of anime

<=Drama and emotion are parts of all great movies and series, and this is true for anime also.
