Reviews - Street Fighter II
Dr Placebo
Street Fighter II is, I am glad to report, substantially better than its crumby Hollywood counterpart.
The actions pace is awesome, loads of action, without having a fight every two seconds.
While the plot is actually rather sparse, we understand that ol' M. Bison has taken control of some of the world's best Street Fighters using his Psycho Power. The show features all of the classic charahters, but you won't find newer characters from the game "Street Fighter Alpha 3" on PS1 or later. No Sakura or Dan then...
The fighting is stylishly animated and the soundtrack is good and the film as a whole is unlikely to disappoint. For people who love Street Fighter as well as anime, this is essential; for those who don't like Street Fighter this is still a good film, but the lack of nostalgia from the days of Street Fighter on the SNES will not feature as one of the films strong points as it did for us. There are no real extras on the disc, and although I got it from a legitimate source, the way the disc's label is printed makes it look pirate.
These minor problems don't detract from the fact that this is a good film and one that I would recognise as a classic and would have no trouble recommending.
