Short Profiles of the characters in Escaflowne

Important: In this section, everything about the charachters is revealed. Please be careful, as you may ruin the story. Don't say I didn't warn you...

	Hitomi Kansake Hitomi is a typical 15 year old Japanese schoolgirl with an interest in tarrot cards. Being a teenage girl, her mind is filled with thoughts of boyfriends and romance, and she often uses her tarrot cards to predict the future of her lovelife.
	Van Fanel The young king of Fanelia, and pilot of the ancient mech, Escaflowne. Van hides his gentle nature with a tough, warrior-like exterior. Van is a Draconian, one of the descendants of Atlantis, with the ability to sprout wings from his back.
	Allen Schezar Allen is the typical 'knight in shining armour'. Good natured and highly skilled in the art of fighting, Allen is a legend known as the "invincible knight" and certainly popular with the ladies. Allen's father was an explorer, who came across Hitomi's grandmother on his travels, and gave her what is now Hitomi's pendant. When Allen's father left, his sister dissapeared, and the stress caused his mother to pass away. As a resut, Allen has always resented his father.
	Dilandau A ruthless, bloodthirsty, psychotic pyromaniac, Dilandau is an important member of the Zaibach empire's army. Dilandau is in fact Allen's lost sister, Serena, who was captured by Zaibach scientists, and experimented on to breed the ultimate fighter. Dilandau's mind is plauged with visions of his kidnap, and being left on his own. This has led to his intense fear of lonlieness.
	Folken Fanel A solemn member of Zaibach, Folken's role is to establish communications with the other nations of Zaibach, as well as commanding the Zaibach soldiers under the rule of emperor Dornkirk. Folken is Van's older brother, who abandoned his homeland after failing to slay a dragon. His arm was bitten off, and he was found by Dornkirk, who gave him his mechanical replacement. Folken became loyal to Dornkirk, but a part of him still yearned to fight alongside his brother. Folken died after he killed Dornkirk.
	Princess Millerna Daughter of King Aston of Asturia. Millerna refuses to stick to the usual life of a princess, but prefers to go on adventures with Allen, her love intrest, much to the disdain of her father. Millerna's nature often means she acts against the advice of those around her, in order to do what she wants.
	Merle Merle is a young cat-girl, and Van's oldest childhood friend. Merle is very over-protective of Van, and jealous of others who come close to him. As a result, she often comes into conflict with Hitomi.
	Emperor Dornkirk Ruler of the Zaibach empire. A mysterious old man with a long beard, Dornkirk has devoted his life to Zaibach and his experiments. Dornkirk is actually Isaac, a scientist from Earth who was fascinated with the principles of destiny. One night, he was transported to Gaea, where he continued his expriments with fate. His investigations have given him unusal long life, but he is now a frail old man. Dornkirk's body is the heart of the fate alteration engine.
	Dryden Dryden is a rich and powerful merchant leader. Umm, That's it.
	Princess Aries The sister of Millerna, Aries is more down-to-earth than her sister, and does not share the same enthusiasm for adventure. Aries is a more typical princess, who cares very much for her sister's welfare.
	Balgus Van's swordmaster and leader of the Samurais of Fanelia. Balgus is a master swordsman, and a brave warrior, famed for his skill. Balgus is quite close to Van, as he has know him since he was a small child. Balgus also trained Allen Schezar.
	Jajuka Dilandau's mentor and guardian, Jajuka is a hound-man (half man, half dog) and member of Zaibach's army. Jajuka looked after Dilandau when he was first captured, and has remained close to him since. Jajuka is a man of peace at heart, and has always preferred Serena to her demented alter-ego. Jajuka sacrifices his life to save Dilandau.
	Naria & Eriya Naria and Eriya are twin cat-women (not from batman-excuse the bad joke) who are skilled fighters of the Zaibach empire. Later in the series, they are infused with fortune blood, which made their power over luck even more powerful, and they became the 'intensified luck soldiers'. However, the experiment had side effects. Both women aged at an accelerated rate, before becoming so weak that they passed away.
	Dragonslayers Skilled Guymelef pilots and compatriots of Dilandau, the Dragonslayers are a group of young men assembled by Zaibach to destroy Escaflowne (hence the name). The Dragonslayers are all killed, mostly by Van Fanel.
	King Aston Is it Aston or Astun? Anyway, King Aston is the ruler of Asturia. He is quite an stubborn man, who is reluctant to change his mind over issues concerning his kingdom. Despite what others tell him, he is very trusting of the Zaibach empire and Folken, wishing to form closer bonds with them.
	Prince Chid Awww...Isn't he cute. Prince Chid is the young prince of Freid. Chid is really Allen Schezar's son, born from the affair he and princess Marlene had. Chid is unaware of this, but is said they have a bond because of this.
	Duke Freid Ruler of Freid, the Duke is a stern man who is unaware of the wisdom and responsibility his son has, dismissing him as a child who has no place in the matters of a king.
	Plactu Plactu's role in the series is small. He is a master interrogator and hypnotist. He's also bald. Little else is known about him. Plactu is killed by Zongi, who assumes his form.
	Zongi Zongi is a doppleganger(shapeshifter) who assumes the forms of others by absorbing their essence into himself. An agent of the Zaibach empire who is dispatched by Folken on infiltration missions. Zongi once killed his brother in a war where they were both disguised and he could not recognise him. Zongi is killed by Dilandau in retalliation for him killing Miguel.
