What are the Evas?
The Evangelions (Eva for short) may look like robots, but they are in fact clones of the first and second angels(Adam and Lillith) covered in armour. The armour is used by NERV to control the Evas and is sometimes referred to as its 'bindings'. Evas can only be piloted by children born 9 months after the second impact, or using a dummy plug system (a system that imitates the brainwaves of the pilots). Upon use of the dummy plug system, the Evas lose all sense of morality, and attack their foe relentlessly. The Evas run primarily on a mains power source that is plugged into their backs. If this source is cut off, they run on an internal battery, which can support them for a few minutes at full power and last for a few hours in life support mode. |

Eva Unit-00 Pilot: Rei Ayanami Status: Prototype evangelion Unit-00 has probably seen the least action of all the evangelions (apart from unit-04) It has been known to go bezerk at times, this was later revealed to be because it contained the soul of Ritsuko's mother, Nasiga Akagi, . (This is why the eva tried to kill Gendo Ikari and Rei, the two people she hated most.) Originally, the eva was orange, but after it's armour was burned by Ramiel's particle beam, a new blue armour was made. Unit-00 is destroyed when Rei self-destructs to kill Arisamel. |

Eva-01 Pilot: Shinji Ikari Status: Test Evangelion In contrast, Unit-01 has seen the most action of all the evas. It almost always goes bezerk, compensating for the pilots lack of skill. It also has stronger regenerative capabilities and endurance than it's counterparts. Unlike the other evas, Unit-01 was made from Lilith. It is therefore valuable to SEELE for use in starting the third impact as a replacement for Lilith. During a battle with an angel, Unit-01, eats its S^2 Organ, and gains an unlimited power source. Unit-01 contains the soul of Ikari Yui, the mother of Shinji, who died in an accident while testing the eva. Because of this, she often takes control of the eva when Shinji is in danger, even activating it with no power. |

Eva-03 Pilot: Touji Suzuhara Status: Production Model/Angel During it's activation test, this Eva was found to be contaminated by an angel. As a result, Units 0,1 and 2 were sent against it. Unit-01 defeated the Eva, then tore it apart.(See angels--Bardiel) The soul inside this eva is unknown, though some say it is Touji's mother. It is difficult to explain it's capacities as an Eva, as I'm unsure whether some of it's abilities were a result of it being contaminated. It certainly had abilities that the other Evas lacked, such as elastic arms and the ability to biofuse. |
